Workshops & Seminars

Filmmaking is incredibly fun and rewarding, but it can also be intimidating. As filmmakers and teachers with over 30 years of experience between the two of us, we know how to make filmmaking more accessible. Getting started is the number one hurdle to get over. We have taught students who have never worked on a film before and by the time they finish our workshops they are amazed at what they were able to accomplish in such a short time.

First Step Film Workshop: Make Your Own Film

Making your own short film isn’t about equipment, it’s about doing it. I’ve met people who have been wanting to do this for years, but never got around to it. You will be shooting with whatever you have, even if it is a phone, and will have a completed film in a little over two days. At the end of the last day everyone is proud, exhausted, and a little bit surprised that they actually made a film. That could be you!

Film Lighting Workshop: Hands-On Lighting

Lighting sets a mood. Understanding how to use the different lighting tools and techniques to create those moods will set your films apart. You will get the opportunity to work as a crew, setting up several different film scenes. This workshop will also show you how to light a face, interview lighting set-ups, and how to light on a limited budget. There will be lots of lights to play with and this course is always a popular one, selling out quickly.

Filmmaking Camera Workshop: Professional Film Camerawork

Learn the technical and the theoretical info behind film camerawork. The theory section will cover the ‘why’. Why choose a camera, a lens, an angle, a framing? The practical part will get you comfortable assembling a cinema camera package, and operating the camera. There is no substitute for getting hands-on with the equipment.  Each class is limited to a small size for maximum engagement.
