Join us for an engaging 2-hour online seminar, “Translating Research into a Documentary” led by Linda Paganelli.
In this session, Linda will use two examples from her own documentary work to illustrate how challenges encountered during field research can be transformed into creative opportunities.
The seminar will address key topics such as “The Myth of Distances and Neutrality,” questioning traditional ideas of objectivity and detachment in research.
It will explore moments of failure on the ground, how nature can emerge as an unexpected protagonist, and ways to represent “Multilayered Multidirectional Truths,” including interspecies and more-than-human approaches.

This seminar is perfect for researchers, filmmakers, and anyone interested in the intersection of ethnography and visual storytelling.
Don’t miss the chance to deepen your understanding of how to creatively navigate the complexities of fieldwork through film!

    About the Workshop Leader

Linda Paganelli is an artist, anthropologist, and filmmaker who weaves together decolonial and queer*feminist perspectives with sensory, visual storytelling. With a background in Visual Anthropology, her work creates immersive, self-reflexive experiences that challenge conventional understandings of reality. Over the past thirteen years, she has worked with universities, museums, and galleries, crafting narratives around migration, belonging, memory culture, and the more-than-human world. Her projects have taken her from the complexities of conflict zones in Afghanistan, Israel/Palestine, and the Western Balkans to diverse communities across Europe. Through ethnographic filmmaking, Linda transcends academic boundaries, inviting a broader audience into these layered, intimate explorations.
